What Henry started, Edward Seymour finished.
Messed with monks meaning the Dissolution of the Monasteries where he determined that certain abbeys were wasteful, and then confiscated their land and assets, sometimes even stripping expensive parts of books out, or just selling them onwards. Even had a few abbots (leaders of abbeys and the monks) executed for treason. Initially he said it was reform, but it was obvious after a while that he was all about selling the monks out so he could have war with France.
In school they tend to teach that it was him who entirely destroyed the monasteries, but he just began the process.
