Image: Robert Catesby and Thomas Bates are talking, Catesby looks a bit annoyed and Bates looks tired. Catesby is wearing fancier clothes tha Bates.
Catesby: There’s really nothing below £4 a month?!
Bates: Sorry M’lud, London prices have really gone through the roof.
Hurr, modern social commentary.
Catesby was upper class, but not very rich since recusancy fines happened. I did research on average rent and house prices and amount of money etc
This isn’t all I looked at but this is something which can at least show you relevant prices http://walternelson.com/dr/node/892
Like clothing was super expensive since you’d have to pay someone to make it all custom generally, or make it yourself, also weaving was done by hand so that’d take ages. But yeah I’d think he’d have been a total cheapskate trying to find a place around Westminster. Maybe he’d have gotten a price that cheap before all those Scotsmen came down with the king, but not now.
Bloody foreigners taking up all the housing (I joke, I joke)
